When a new project, especially new technology, is released, forums, comment boards, and social networking sites become a hotbed of activity for folks who want to add their two cents to the equation. Many say that it does this or does that, or that it doesn’t have the ability to do such and such – all of this speculation is worthless if you don’t have the facts. There are many people now wondering if they should preorder Wii U system consoles based on the fictions and facts that they’re seeing online. Let’s break down some of the biggest rumors online and uncover a few truths along the way.
Rumor: The new console looks just like the old one!
You wouldn’t think that how a console looks would be as important as how it plays, but to some hardcore gamers, appearance is almost as important as how it performs! When the company introduced this product at the E3 conference, the console that they showcased did look very similar to the original release, which is likely where this rumor comes from. It’s important to note, however, that as of when they released the information about the new system to the public, the company did not have any finished product to show. The console itself is still in development and may look much different when it is released. Only time will tell.
Rumor: You can’t play DVDs on the new console.
This rumor is true. One thing that many hardcore gamers asked for was the ability to play DVDs and BluRay discs on the newest consoles. While you can play these discs on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, you cannot play them with this release. The company has cited cost as the reason for keeping this software out of the newest system, stating that the price of the new system will be much lower if it doesn’t play these discs. They also said that most people already have at least one way to play these types of discs and figured that they didn’t need more.
Rumor: You can only hook one remote up to the new product.
One reason why a lot of people probably won’t preorder Wii U is because of this rumor. There are many websites stating that the newest system can only handle one controller, and if you’re someone who loves to game with friends, that would be a definite turnoff. The truth of the matter, however, is that the system can work with more than one controller. Currently representatives state that the system is designed to work with one of the new controllers, the controller with the 6” touch screen in it, and it will also work with up to four regular wii-motes. They have also stated that there may be a possibility of the new console being able to handle more than one of the new remotes when it is released as well.
Rumor: The new system has HD capability
That is one request that Nintendo took seriously. If you preorder Wii U system consoles, you should know that you will be getting a product that is HD capable. The new console has the ability to hook up directly with an HDMI port and it also has four USB ports in it as well.
