Although the projected price for the Nintendo Wii is expected to be much lower than it’s next-gen predecessors, the games may not be. The latest rumor mill, based on various retailers online listing of titles, suggests that the retail price for a Wii game will be $59.00.
Traditionally, next-gen games were to be sold for $40-50 and Xbox 360 started the trend to the $60 title. So, just because you may not be paying more for the system, the Wii games will be just as pricy.
Is the $59 retail price for a Wii game warranted? I don’t think so. Especially considering what the next-gen consoles expect you to buy now, think online-addons.
Everything from downloadable maps, characters, and themes for your consoles dashboard seem to have a pricetag nowadays. Therefore, not only are you paying more for the base game, but if you want to utilize all that it has to offer you have to fork over another handful of cash. So, that $59 game 3 months down the road has already cost you over $70 and in some cases more. This of course assuming that the Wii Online Games follow the same suit as the Xbox 360 counterparts.
It should be noted that these $59 dollar Wii games will be for Third-Party games only. According to popular retailer BestBuy, Nintendo brand games will retail for $49.
