For many video game fanatics the launch of the Nintendo Wii is a much anticipated date. During the past year we have been graced with information on games being released, developers who have signed on, and even some rumors as to what games will be launching with the new console. However, the latest industry news suggests that there might not be a lot of games available before Christmas.
TheStreet.com recently reported that many game developers were slow to react to the Nintendo Wii. Even when Nintendo announced that it would have revolutionary style controllers, developers were just not excited about the Wii. Since then, the net and popular periodicals have been all abuzz about this upcoming system. Unfortunatley later on in the game, many developers are scrambling to come up with titles for a semi-launch date release.
Electronic Arts is one Wii game developer that will not have titles available immediatley for the launch. Starting a late development, such games could easily be pushed back as late as 1st quarter 07. Ubisoft appears to be the only company with enough gumpshion to have a big name release title at the Wii launch.
Red Steel is slated to be a big winner with the Wii. The fact that it is 1 of a handful of launch titles has something to do with their upcoming and rumored success. Lets hope that more developers jump on the Wii Buzz bandwagon soon, because I can only eat so many mushrooms.
