As launch time approaches and a strong buzz still surrounding the Nintendo Wii, who will come out on top? The console war has become more fierce in the past months, mainly due to the support Wii received at E3. The marketing hype about their new controller, developers scrambling to create games, and Nintendo’s already large fan base puts doubts in industry experts as to who will win.
The PS3 will no doubt be more appealing to the hardcore gamer with deep pockets. Sony has planned this, hoping to corner the market on next-gen systems…but Nintendo isn’t playing the same game. Rightfully so, Nintendo is hoping to bring gaming to those that are not hardcore and do not have a fistfull of cash.
Nintendo’s marketing plan from the beginning was to appeal to gamers and non-gamers the world over. By making fun games and concentrating more on the playing experience rather than graphics, the Wii is raising eyebrows. The PS3 has high-end everything, Blu-Ray, Graphics, memory, but where is the fun factor and really, how big is that market?
The Wii will launch 4th quarter of 06, ushering in a whole new era of next-generation game play. Their funky controller, sleek design, and fun games makes for an appealing and affordable system. Ultimately, the target audience will be larger than the hardcore fanboy market Sony is hoping to cornhole.
Launch dates for both systems are around the corner and industry analysts can’t seem to agree on who will come out on top. Business Week thinks that the Wii, with a larger target audience will reign supreme in sales. However, renowned gaming analyst Yuta Sakuri, thinks the PS3 will sell a full 60% more than the buzz happy Wii. Too many analysts in the kitchen spoil…nevermind.
Gamers, non-gamers, kids, and adults should get ready for this seasons console war. No matter who wins, it should be a very Merry Christmas for all.
