It’s no secret that the Nintendo Wii is slated to launch at a much lower price than the other 2 next-generation consoles. The Xbox 360 weighing in at $399 and the upcoming PS3 powerhouse is slated to be $599. However, breaking the bank happens when you start accessorizing and adding the fun stuff, like the games.
During E3 we were treated to a notion that 1st party Wii titles would remain under the $50 mark. Staying below this price point is something next-generation consoles have refused to do, most 360 games launch at $60. Although this $50 mark is for 1st party titles the third party titles have rumored launch at the industry standard $60.
What is a 1st party developed game? Wii games such as Mario Galaxy and Nintendo brand sports titles are all 1st party manufactured video games. Third party developed titles are ones that are produced through EA or any other brand besides the official Nintendo.
According to an industry insider, who confirmed with GameIndustry.biz, states that most titles will launch at the $49 price point. To further support the idea that a Wii game will launch under fifty dollars we only need to turn to the Nintendo president himself. In March of this year Satoru told CNN Money that “I cannot imagine any first party title could be priced for more than $50.” No breaking the piggy banks just yet.
