Nintendo has been reluctant to announce a specific price point for their upcoming console, the Wii. However, despite Nintendo’s reluctance to give up information has not kept industry analysts and “experts” from guessing at the price. The latest price prediction comes from EA games Vice President David Gardner.
Gardner predicts that the Wii will be sold in North America for $170, well below the standing low prediction of $250. David felt this fell into Nintendo’s plan to be the ’second’ system customers buy, the first being a PS3 or Xbox 360. If it’s true, this places the much anticipated console at only $40 more than their handheld DS Lite system.
Although a low-ball estimate on Wii pricing, Gardner wasn’t the only to predict prices below the $250 mark. Tokyo accountant group Nikko has also predicted the launch price of Wii to be around the 90 lb mark.
