In the latest edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly, they discuss the hype and anticipation behind the two next-gen systems to be released, Wii and PS3. They touch on some noteworthy aspects of the Wii and cover where the high and low points were in the hype surrounding the new system.
The article covers the basics in terms of pricing and launch date, since they know no more about these topics than we do. What they do make note of is the WiiConnect24 and the Wii’s ability to remain connected to the internet, even when the system is turned off. As has been mentioned here before, playing online will be a free service.
Electronic Gaming then goes on to discuss the first next-gen controller and coin it a crazy-controller. They are quick to mention that compared to the PS3 controller the Wiimote will have a center speaker, rumble motion, and the connection to the wii nunchuck to allow for a more precise contolling environment. With the basics out of the way the article covers what has been the hype surrounding the system since it’s initial announcement in May of 05.
The breakdown of the hype is as follows:
- Nintendo unveils new console, codenamed Revolution *HOT
- Nintendo reveals unique motion controller *HOT
- Nintendo reveals Wii name and urine jokes abound *NOT
- First Red Steel screens revealed *HOT
- EG plays Red Steel *NOT
- Solid Wii lineup playable at E3 show *HOT
EG covers the up and down motion of the hype surrounding Nintendo’s next big project, side by side with the Sony PS3. When compared side by side, the Nintendo Wii has more positives than the Sony PS3. Granted these are all factors based on hype, the real winner will come out in Fall of this year…at least according to Nintendo rumors.
