The Nintendo Wii received a lot of, probably free, advertising on Comedy Centrals South Park this evening. The episode opened with Cartmen pacing in front of the EV Game store, awaiting the Wii’s release in 3 weeks. Obviously, Nintendo posters covered EV Games windows and the console could be seen behind the glass.
Cartmen, unable to wait 3 weeks for it’s release, decided to freeze himself so that time would pass instantaneously. After a handful of failed attempts, Cartmen enlists the help of Butters. In the end Cartmen succeeded in freezing himself in the mountains of Colorado, but not to be thawed until the year 2546! lol
Although the episode used the Nintendo Wii as a side gag to the politically charged Evolution Theory vs God, it was nice to see the Wii on TV. The episode was to be continued, with Cartmen stuck in 2546 just trying to find an old Wii to play in a Godless, non-videogame-playing society.

I doubt the not so subtle product placement in SP was done for free. It seems this is a big issue in Hollywood right now and they call it “Product Integration”. Its where the product is integrated into the story line. Last weeks “The Office” showed a guy making a salad out of shredder, when asked where he got it, he responds “Staples”.
Some shows have a good enough writing staff to get away with it and make it seem a little more natural. This week on Studio 60 the flat out addressed in the story.
Bottomline… None of this is Wii related, but it is more and more prevalent and sucks. Especially when I’m watching smallville and Chloe is awkwardly hawking disposable contacts or Lois is distracting a guard by telling him all the features of her new Ford Fusion.
lol, thanks for the rant Jason.
