It looks like the people in Australia have taken to the Wii more than any other console ever. Today Nintendo released a press release stating that the Nintendo Wii has sold over 32,901 consoles in the first four days. Now it is worth noting that despite not being that large of a number Australia has never really took to a gaming console as much as this time.

As with everywhere else Nintendo are facing a lot of people not being able to buy a console due to shortages. A store owner of the chain of shops “Myer” in Australia is quoted to say “Myer has just experienced a strong spike in total business which can be largely attributed to the introduction of Wii,” he goes on to say “We couldn’t be happier with the fantastic products Nintendo are releasing. Our Wii launch experience has really shown that consumers have made Myer a destination store for gaming.” Personally I feel like the Wii has hit well in Australia due to the active style of game play, Australians unlike elsewhere do not enjoy sitting down to play a console, now they have the chance to be able to get up and be active while still playing! A web user on the website Digg comments to say “It was pretty hard getting a wii here in sydney, I preordered it but apparently there were some pretty disappointed people who tried to get it on launch day.”.

To compare the Xbox 360 sold just under 30,000 and if I am right I suspect the PS3 to see less than that. It also opens up the chance for Nintendo to start selling more Dual Screen handheld consoles. Nintendo have got of the a great start in the console war and now they just have to keep it up.
