buywii2221.jpgIf you visit any of the IGN website’s, such as Wii on IGN you will see most things related to the Wii are rated down. Why is this? Well it could amount to a number of reasons one of them being IGN gets paid by companies such as Sony, and so far Nintendo have kept all game reviews fair by not paying anyone, so this means every review from a Nintendo console Sony might be buying to rate down, it is clear that IGN has been unfair like this for many years, and this is just another example of this. So lets look at some examples, just so you know we are just making up that IGN hates Wii.

Farcry on Wii is a very high rated game, on a IGN website for Wii, they scored it a massive.. 4\10, now look at the normal rating out of 10 other website’s (by adding them together and then devide it by 10) The average user rating for this game is 9.4 \ 10.

However it may not be that they are getting paid, instead it might be that IGN are outdated, it is clear that IGN don’t like how Wii does not have shiny graphics, and it may be that IGN feels like the Wii does not have the power of the playstation 3 and Xbox 360. What ever the reason it seems that IGN hates wii, and I can only feel let down by IGN again, it is about time we have a game site that is not bribed.

You need to actually do your research next time smarty. IGN and Gamespot are completely different websites. The Wii games are rated similarly on both sites. The guys who review Wii games for IGN are also completely obsessed with everything Nintendo. Show me a story on IGN that blatantly promotes the PS3 over the Wii, and where did you find these sites giving FarCry a 9 out of 10? Most of the Wii games have lower scores because the developers haven’t had enough time to master the control schemes. Next time you open your mouth, try using your brain.

My faith in Nintendo has been rekindled with their DS Lite and Wii - it seems that they are the only company that realizes gameplay is more important than graphics. I for one just can’t get enough of the new interaction mechanisms that both consoles bring to the table - sick of all that button-mashing and don’t want to go to Console-U to get my masters degree in XBAYLRLR combos.

However, do note one thing: While gameplay trumps graphics any day of the week, I do believe that IGN has a very valid point. The graphics on far cry really are utter shite.

One thing I found very odd was your comment on sites that have high ratings for FarCry. I checked on gamerankings.com just now, and only IGN has even reviewed the game!

The problem with FarCry on Wii is the same that any game potentially faces: can the gameplay and graphics be effectively translated to the target platform?

Everyone knows that the DS is woefully underpowered in terms of raw processing power when compared to a PSP. The DS also is notoriously known for its crapass racing games - Carbon? Ridge Racer? C’mon, give me a break. These games suck because they are ported to an inferior system (inferior in specs, not gameplay!) with no thoughts as to whether the gameplay and graphics can make the transition (they can’t). Hoever, Mario Kart is one of the best racers out there, bar none. That is because the developers designed the game around the console and not the other way around.

Other games come to mind: Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land sports some very nice cel-shaded graphics in an immersive 3D world, because the developers realized that the DS simply couldn’t portray the gritty photorealistic art direction of previous titles. Instead, the cel-shaded art direction was something that the DS could handle with relative aplomb, and it worked a treat.

Nintendo truly understands this philosophy; that is why most Nintendo consoles have as the best games Nintendo franchises. They work with the console, and don’t try to force it to do something it simply can’t.

Therefore, I can see the point of IGN poo-pooing the game for its (futile) attempt at porting a game that is simply too complex for the Wii. IGN isn’t poo-pooing the Wii per se, and by looking at their review of Zelda, and dare I say, future Nintendo-developed games, they will focus less on what doesn’t work (hard to ignore on FarCry) and instead on what does work.

And before you bash me, fanboys, keep in mind that I owned both the Nintendo and Famicom (with the disk drive) when it came out, then the SNES, then the N64, paying over twice a premium over list prices (and back then I earned a pittance with my salary, living in a third-world country, so 440USD was a literal shitload of money). My DS Lite has a solar-powered Mario keychain and a Luigi kart, moving wheels and all. I think Nintendo is doing a great job, and that the Wii, for all its shortcomings, is a fantastic piece of interactive technology that neither of the other next-gen consoles can hold a candle to. But if a game sucks because it doesn’t give me the whole package - not just great gameplay, but the works, then yes, the game does deserve to be rated poorly. FarCry falls in this category.

Remember that in order for games to be “fun”, you need that “temporary suspension of disbelief” thrown into the mix. With FarCry trying to (unsuccessfully) match its PC predecessor, I can’t ignore how fugly it looks and it sure doesn’t help me at all in the “disbelief suspension” department. I also know that when Nintendo releases the next Mario or Metroid on the Wii, these issues will become non-issues.

No I feel you to. Gamespot is Cnet, and IGN brought shares in Cnet ages ago.

This article is a big lie

I agree with this article, a friend of mine simply did not choose the wii sucked because of an article they posted months before it was actually released, I think some one isn’t giving it a fair chance.

I believe IGN is a biased site and from my one visit never visited it again because of their outrageous scoring system, they do rate wii games lower. Anyone wanna check what they rated the Twilight Princess? IT should be rated a perfect 10, one less from its ancestor LoZ Ocarina of Time.

I agree with those above when they say you were maybe overtly harsh of IGN’s criticism of FarCry, the graphics are nowhere near the system’s true capabilities… but what do you expect from a port of a Microsoft-owned platform, I mean a PC game of course… haha. Check out for further evidence that IGN, in fact, are Nintendo and Wii lovers after all…
