Buy Wii Talk

Violence followed the video game industry a little to close this past holiday season, especially those waiting in line to purchase a PS3. However, the Wii has now indirectly claimed it’s first life in a bizarre incident involving water.

A Californian woman died of water poisoning after taking part in a bizarre drinking contest to win a computer games console, according to US authorities.

Jennifer Strange, 28, was found dead in her home in Rancho Cordova, California, on Friday after drinking as much water as she could without going to the toilet

A preliminary investigation by the local coroner determined that her death was “consistent with a water intoxication death”. It is not yet known how much water she drank.

Ms Strange, a mother-of-three, had taken part in radio station KDND 107.9’s “hold your wee for a Wii” contest, in a bid to win a Nintendo Wii video games system.

Water intoxication is very real, but may seem silly, especially considering the amount of fluid that would need to be consumed. Water Intoxication happens from a rapid intake of water and throws your body’s electrolytes out of whack. Wikipedia has the low down if your still curious of such an affliction.

Ms Strange was heard complaining of a severe headache before leaving the contest. The worst is that she was competing in the contest for her 3 children.

It was a pretty irresponsible of the radio station to host such a contest. Did they not have one person there with an IQ above room temp. Well what am I saying…It was a radio station.
