Bringing quality games to your Wii should not be monopolized by the largest gaming developers, at least according to Nintendo. The Wii Game Channel was launched yesterday to help game developers create light-weight downloadable content which can be marketed directly to the end user. Not only is this a cost savings for the developer, but gives us the consumer more choices and allows for smaller games to be just as successful as blockbusters.
”Wii Software paves the way for smaller, more creative games to make their way to the public at lower prices without any inventory risk to developers,” said an official Nintendo statement.
It’ll take some time before the content is all revved up and ready for consumption, so look for new ‘developer to consumer’ downloads in 2008. Meanwhile, there are still plenty of games to use those Wiipoints on.
