We’re gonna have to wait until 08, but the Wii will be given DVD play back capabilities. This was confirmed by Nintendo, but not given a specific release date, just expect it sometime in 2008.

The reason for delay is because Nintendo is focusing all their efforts on meeting Holiday demand for their wildly popular console. Still, to this day it’s virtually impossible to walk into a normal store like Wal-Mart, BestBuy, or EB Games and buy a Wii. So, if you’re looking to have one under the tree this Christmas, you better buy a Wii online while you still can. :)
