In the gaming world there are three main names: Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. While Sony and Microsoft release gaming consoles and games, they also release other products as well. Microsoft has a booming software business, while Sony makes all sorts of electronic items. Nintendo, however, has stuck by the item that first brought them mass success: games. The corporation began by selling cards, but quickly moved into the gaming business with their original game console released in the mid-eighties. Since then, they have had five consoles: the original, the SNES, the N64, Gamecube, and the Wii. Now they have announced their newest offering – the Nintendo Wii U – but how will this new console stack up against the two other heavy hitters in the gaming industry?
A Few Past Weaknesses
If the company has been making dedicated gaming systems since they became famous, why have they had a difficult time luring in hard core gamers with the Wii? That question is actually easily answered by looking at the graphics that are available with that console. The graphics that are available with the PlayStation and with the Xbox 360 have helped to define high quality within the industry, and there are some games that look so lifelike, you’d almost think you were watching a movie. It is this high quality graphics capability that made people, especially gamers who love spending time in front of a game and truly getting immersed within that world, extremely happy. That is one thing, however, that the original release did not have. The designers stated that they purposefully made sure that the graphics card was not that expensive, simply because they wanted to focus more on creating a gaming system that was accessible and “not scary” to the general public, instead of focusing on appealing to hardcore gamers. While this may have been a great idea for families, it definitely alienated a number of hardcore gamers.
Another problem they had, which is related to the speed of the machine, is the titles that were created for the system. The titles were limited because of the graphics card and the speed of the processor. Unfortunately some of the most popular games were only available for people who owned the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 – not something that hardcore gamers want to deal with.
Great Fixes Included
So does the new Nintendo Wii U fix the problems that the older console had and does it have the ability to stand up against the other mighty gaming consoles? Actually, it does! The newest gaming console from the well-known company has a much faster processor than the previous one did, and it also has a much better graphics card. Because of this, game developers are going to be able to make versions of their titles, even those high quality and fast paced games that everyone loves, for the new system. This will make the new release equal to the others.
But this company doesn’t settle, and rather than just make themselves equal to the task, they decided to do one better, as the new Nintendo Wii U has an interactive controller that has a 6” touch screen. It truly is something that is destined to change the face of gaming today.
