wiibyte.gifFirst I would like to say sorry to all readers that have been pointing out that the post quality on Buy-wii.net has being going down hill, I won’t lie this is mainly due to me and drink. No I don’t have a drinking problem however I did have Christmas and well two and two go together. I would love to bring up a comment about this blog being mainly for profit, your wrong. That is all I can say, we really are fans of the Wii! I do promise to improve the quality on this blog as we at Buy-wii want to be your number one source for Wii information. Do please keep reading, I promise from the bottom of my heart to improve the style used. Now onto a more pressing subject, the Wii! Today we have lots of news so in such I feel like I should do it in small bite size chunks, which I have decided to call  Wii-bitesize. A Wii-bite {Don’t worry they don’t sting} will be a small bit of information related to a subject which I feel does not need a whole story.

First it seems from Capcom’s own website that they have no plans at all for releasing any games on the Nintendo Wii. They have plans for 2007 for Nintendo Gamecube and Gameboy advanced, as well as Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles, however a clear lack of anything related to the Wii. Now we do have reports of them creating games for the Wii, such as Sengoku Basara so this is likely to be a report error so do not fear, for now at least!*

Next it seems that Nintendo are doing what we all knew they was going to do, target non-gamers with the console. Nintendo recruited a handful of hip-technology mothers to try and get other parents to play the console. Nintendo of America has given the name alpha mom’s to these mom’s and are hoping to create a hype with the older generation of women. It is also import to get mothers on there side to get the mother to allow the younger generation to play the games. The Wii has always been aimed at trying to grab non-gamers, and it seems to be paying of by doubling the number of the units that the Playstation 3 sold, and near matching what the Xbox 360 sold.

Wii emails seem to be selling well. The Gmail email wiis.r.us@gmail.com sold for a staggering $385 dollars on Ebay.com. It is yet unknown if the transaction has gone through, however it is not rear to see such actions when a new console is brought out, or in the matter of being precise anything that create hype. A popular website has offered to give our free @ilovethewii.com 1GB email addresses for the next 1 month, this may in turn make the market die down for now, however some will still be paying high prices to try and make a profit from them. Trade PS3 For Wii.

welovesex.jpgRemember when people camped outside of Best Buy in America really wanting to get hold of a playstation 3, well it seems that now they decided they wish they had a Wii. Many problem are trying to trade there Playstation 3, worth about 450 dollars for a Wii worth half the price. This is a clear sign that the Nintendo Wii has already beaten what anyone thought it might, and infact it shows that the Wii may be racing to the number one console for 2007, and heck in 2008!

The trades are being requested on the popular trade website craigslist.org, and there is currently over 100 trades being requested. It is yet unclear how many people are going to be willing to give away there Wii for a doomed Playstation 3. However before we jump and say it must be ex-sony fans we need to really remember alot of sharks (people who buy the console with the sole intent of selling it for a higher price) now are finding they can no longer shift the Playstation 3 on ebay as quick as they would like, and in turn are turning to another source of income, one that is growing quick.. the Wii.

However we here at Buy-wii feel it is more likly to be the lack of good launch games and the heated talk about the Wii going around on the internet. The wii has already be launched into status of being ‘cool’, and many people are finding out that the Playstation 3 offers little except for new graphics. What ever the reason it is clear a market change is near and either these people are trying to cash in with advanced planning or are really disappointed with Sonys console!

A few days ago we wrote about the pending release of the Nintendo Opera Wii Browser, and now I am happy to say it has hit the download store. We downloaded the free trial to see what it was like, here is the all important information that you need to know about the Browser.

It has Flash 7, however the new version of flash is flash 8, so some games and websites will not work, granted it is a very very small percent of flash files that will not work but this is still a problem. It is currently unknown if Nintendo are expected to upgrade the flash version as time goes on, however you can expect them not to for issues related to hacking the Wii. Sites such as IGN will not work fully due to being made in Flash 8.

We tested Youtube.com, to give Opera a go and we can report that it worked very well. It is very handy to be able to zoom in onto the video only, granted you will have to deal with poor quality. Other flash video sites also worked well, including Dailymotion.com which is a popular site for Simpson’s clips.

Google Maps worked great, and it is rather fun using the Wiimote to move around within the map, infact it makes us feel like we are some spy, all we need know is a 70inch plasma screen TV!

It is not all good news however, javascript did not work (however we expected that) and some Ajax sites crashed the browser. It still needs to be more stable before anyone uses it as a full web surfing device, however expect to see more and more sites popping up made just for the Wii using the Wiimote!

Wii game ripped

notspam1.gifA bad day for Nintendo is here, and one I am sure that they knew would be upon them. The first step of hacking and pirating games from the Wii has happened. Yes the first Wii ISO dump is here, and unlike the rest of the dumps this one is real!

The game which makes History as the first downloadable ISO for the Wii is Red Steel. The game has been ripped by the very large pirate group Paradox. At current nothing can be done with the ISO however it is the first step to allowing people to pirate games illegal for the Wii, and this will no doubt worry Nintendo. They would of expected it to get pirated however for the console 1 month after release is going to damage possible profit from games. Unlike the GameCube the Nintendo Wii does not use a strange format and any CD burner with a bit of tweaking will be able to burn CDs, we should expect for playable rips within a few weeks.

Some internet users are concerned that due to piracy this console could go the same way as the Dreamcast (Sega’s doomed console), however it is predicted that the console sales will go strong even with piracy. It is worth noting that piracy of the console both hurts the profits of Nintendo, which results in a smaller chance of a Wii 2, and discourages game creators from making games for the console. At current the Playstation 3 has yet to be cracked however I am sure you can expect it soon.

Opera Browser for Wii

opera.pngIt has been reported on several websites that a source close to the Opera Wii project has given a little insight into what Wii owners should expect with the up and coming release of the Opera browser trial that is expected to hit the Wii Shop this Friday.

First it is worth noting that this will not be the final release of the browser, and some are dubbing it as a beta. The Wii was ment to come with this browser however Nintendo had issues over how stable it was and kept rejecting the builds that Opera Software created. It is expected to have the full build ready for March.

Javascript is not expected to work fully, this is due to Nintendos fears that the Wii software can be exploited if javascript is allowed without being fully patched, Opera Software is expected to have this problem sorted by the March build, however no promises from either Opera or Nintendo on this matter. Ajax, on the otherhand is expected to work mostly, however some mashed up versions of Ajax code may face issues due to the javascript being disabled.

Flash is also expected to be a problem due to Nintendo opting to use a edited version that limits what the flash can do, once again due to fears that the Wii software may be hacked so in turn some games, and flash sites that use the Flash plugin may not work correctly. It is unknown if Opera intends to fix this problem.

IGN Hates Wii

buywii2221.jpgIf you visit any of the IGN website’s, such as Wii on IGN you will see most things related to the Wii are rated down. Why is this? Well it could amount to a number of reasons one of them being IGN gets paid by companies such as Sony, and so far Nintendo have kept all game reviews fair by not paying anyone, so this means every review from a Nintendo console Sony might be buying to rate down, it is clear that IGN has been unfair like this for many years, and this is just another example of this. So lets look at some examples, just so you know we are just making up that IGN hates Wii.

Farcry on Wii is a very high rated game, on a IGN website for Wii, they scored it a massive.. 4\10, now look at the normal rating out of 10 other website’s (by adding them together and then devide it by 10) The average user rating for this game is 9.4 \ 10.

However it may not be that they are getting paid, instead it might be that IGN are outdated, it is clear that IGN don’t like how Wii does not have shiny graphics, and it may be that IGN feels like the Wii does not have the power of the playstation 3 and Xbox 360. What ever the reason it seems that IGN hates wii, and I can only feel let down by IGN again, it is about time we have a game site that is not bribed.

Your Wii and the secrets it holds

buywii221.jpgFirst sorry for the lack of a post yesterday, I had a hard day and just.. feel asleep! Anyhow, you would be forgiven to think that you know everything about your Wii, however you would be wrong. The wii has many hidden things that you do not know about!

Now if you got Wii Sports {which most of the consoles came with} you can change your ball color with ease in Bowling. After selecting your Mii you will get a warning telling you that you should not hit anything. While on this screen hold down one of the D-Pad directions and you can change ball color:

  • D-Pad Left: Red ball
  • D-Pad Right: Gold ball
  • D-Pad Up: Blue ball
  • D-Pad Down: Green ball

The Mii Channel is one of them things that you just can’t help but love, however after spending hours creating your own little walking peice of art, you may want to send it to all your Wii Freinds, however if you send it to over 20 people you see the message shown to the right. Yes you can no longer send any more of your little Mii today, however not all is lost! If you still want to make sure everyone has one of your Miis. If you just go into your Wii internal calendar you can change the data to something like a day before, then go and send your Mii to 20 other people, and then change again and send to another 20. Easy!

“Wii think the strap is too thin Sir”

Yes, you may of heard by now that Nintendo are recalling all the straps on Wiis that have been sold so far, it is expected that the company will replace around 3.2 million straps at a very costly 3 million USD.

So what is the new strap like? Well the only change is that it is about 1 millimeter compared to 0.6 millimeters for the old one. However we at Buy-wii still feel that normal game play would not create the breaking of the straps that some people have had. Today in the office we did a test to see how much force a Wii can take, and neadless to say it can take a whole lot more than what you would have to put into normal game play.

A spokes person for the company placed the problem more on the gamers than the strap.”These remotes were tested extensively through normal game play,’ she said and goes on to say `If you hold on to the controller, it’s absolutely fine.”To date it is suspected less than 1/100th of a percent of the Wiimote straps have broken, which clearly is a very small percent. We feel Nintendo is not recalling these in fear of safty but insted to please the media. A better brighter Wii with small price tag for 2007?

Some rumors, and we must stress rumors have been going around that have been leaked from a Toys-R-Us store manager about some changes coming to the Nintendo Wii for the next year. Two things shall be changing, the first will be that the Wii will be able to be brought in a set of colors, now I always expected this due to the fact the DS did it with great success. We are sure to see a pink Wii by the end of 2007, also expect a big price drop next year from 250 USD to 200 USD.

The price drop is expected being consoles allways go down in price, however one can not expect for the Wii to go down to much due to its price is low for a console in the first place. However we at buy-wii.net feel that the console within 2 years will be as cheap as 125 USD.

No official word from Nintendo as yet, but I am sure that after christmas if this is true we shall hear from them pretty quickly. Currently they are holding back with fear that it might put some people of buying a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. However we at Buy-wii.net do not think the changes are worth waiting and if you want a console now is to time to get it. A recent poll by the website Gotfrag asked users if they see it happening and it is 50\50 right now, so you decide… will we see Wii 1.1?
