WARNING DO NOT USE December 1, 2008 I recently moved abroad and bought this power adapter which is supposed to be able to handle 220 V to power my Wii. After using it for about 20 minutes, I heard a loud popping noise. Needeless to say the power adapter burned out. It caused the DVD to remain stuck in the Wii and won't eject nor can the Wii read the disc. Therefore I have a brand new Wii that no longer works. I bought this because others have had great experienes with this product. As an engineer, I know that if the manufacturer does not have good quality control in place in the manufacturing site, it will produce adapaters that vary tremendously in quality. Some will operate fantastically and others will be like mine and burn out your system.
Power from device not clean November 23, 2008 This device is not worth the savings over standard power supply. The picture on the tv from this power supply is shakey. It is obvious from the light weight that there aren't many components inside this item and there clearly is no form of power filter as you can see the fluctuations on the screen.
Screen interference with this adapter September 27, 2008 We have two Wii consoles, one a 37" Polaroid LCD TV and the other on a 42" Vizio LCD TV. Both using component cables. Last week the power supply on the Wii on the Vizo died, so we ordered this one as a replacement.
After plugging in this power adapter and turning on the Wii there was a lot of static/interference on the Vizio display. I swapped power adapters between the two Wii consoles and the problem followed the adapter - in other words, the Wii on the Polaroid had a very staticy display with this power adapter, while the Vizio's display looked fine with the original Nintendo power adapter.
I then tried the original composite video cables that came with the Wii, which also takes the LCD TV displays down from 480p to 480i in the process (confirmed that in the Wii settings screen on each console). With the composite cables the static/interference was greatly reduced. Instead of being constant across the whole screen the static was a couple of 4-5" horizontal bands that scrolled very slowly. It was actually more less noticeable on the Polaroid than on the Vizio, but still obvious when you're looking at the screen (especially on darker backgrounds).
The last thing I tried was cheap shielding - wrapping the power adapter's transformer (the brick part of the adapter) in aluminum foil. No joy, there was possibly a slight improvement, but if there was it wasn't much. Guess the interference is coming up through the power adapter cable into the console itself.
So I'm giving this product 2 stars because technically it works - it just doesn't work very well. Someone using this power adapter on a Wii hooked up to a standard CRT TV using the standard composite video cables might not notice a difference. I'd say maybe I got a bad one, but with other reviews also mentioning static/interference problems, I'm guessing the problem is inherent in the product design itself that really manifests itself on hi-def setups. The power adapter is physically much lighter than the original Nintendo power adapter, and the transformer box probably doesn't contain anything more than the absolute bare minimum components to produce a working power adapter. I'm just hoping BargainCell/EForcity will replace it without charging more shipping for the return. We'll see, I can't comment either way on their service at this point.
Solid Product September 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When my Wii power supply failed, I expected to have an expensive replacement. However, this product was both inexpensive and has performed perfectly for over a month of heavy use now. I am delighted.
not a good adapter September 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With using this adapter, the Wii image in my TV was unclear. When switching back to the original one, the sharp and clear image comes back. This adapter is lighter than the original one. I guess the quality is also lighter than the original one.
