Easily one of the most common complaints that parents have about video games is that they do not challenge children to be active. Let’s face facts: most video games simply have you sitting in front of a screen, pressing a few buttons on the controller. Thankfully, though, Nintendo has gone that extra mile to ensure that children and adults alike will get off their couches and get some physical activity with their Nintendo Wii home video game console.

There are dozens of truly great games on the Wii that challenge you both physically and mentally. However, there are not too many games that truly challenge you to use your whole body. Oh, sure, there are a hundred games that tell you to wiggle your controller up and down or left to right, but how many games can you actually name that tell you to use your whole body? As many who buy Wii Fit have already suggested, this title promises to be the closest thing to an actual workout that you will find on any video game system, period. When you consider all of the exercise options that are readily available to you immediately out of the box, it’s hard to argue this claim, and that fact alone has many wondering where to buy Wii Fit.

Even with all of these great exercises, how do you know that you are actually getting a true exercise when you buy Wii Fit? Because of its use of its internal BMI calculator and Wii Fitness age. The Wii Fitness age is the numerical score that is determined based off of your current age, weight and athletic ability. Ideally, you will want to keep your Wii Fitness age between 19-24. If you’re too low or too high, it means that you’re either too weak or too frail, and that means it’s time to hit the slopes, or the yoga mat, or whatever you really want. You truly get to choose the exercise when you buy Wii Fit; you’re not limited by your ability to exercise in the real world.

When you first buy Wii Fit, you’ll plug in the balance board, and begin the registration process. It will weigh you and test your balance levels in order to determine what might be right for you. It’s important to note that the weigh in procedures actually make some users more anxious about their body size and potential problems, as you’ll see the process on screen, so steel yourself if you don’t like the numbers you actually encounter.

After you buy Wii Fit, you may find that it looks a lot like many of the Brain Training Games for the DS. It offers you a series of activities you can do to improve your overall level of fitness, and you get some great personal (if virtual) trainers to talk you through everything that you’ll be doing. You even get compliments if you’re doing something right or suggestions for things that you’re not doing very well.

Almost all of the game play in Wii Fit involves the balance board itself, and it’s important to use it on the right surface. If you have higher carpet in the room where you use it, you may want to add the additional rubber feet that it comes with so you have a better feel for the game.

Unfortunately, the multi-player options with Wii Fit are really lacking. There are a few, but for the most part, this title seems to have been built for the individual user who is truly looking to enhance his or her overall level of fitness. Moreover, the music in this game might really remind you of what you’d have to listen to during your visit to the dentist, but that also means that you can avoid the techno that most group workout facilities play.

If you have been looking to buy Wii Fit for a while, you may have noticed that it is not exactly the easiest game to find. The Nintendo Wii is the most popular video game system on the market today, and tens of millions of people want to buy Wii Fit. If you wanted to buy a wii system, and had a couple of thousands laying around, then this would have been the wii system for you. This Zelda Themed Wii system was auctioned off on Ebay awhile back, and I believe it fetched a pretty price. It may be one of the most expensive Wii’s ever sold. If you want to make some money, then modding out Wii’s is a good way to do it.

Coming soon is an answer to those searching for true Wireless freedom. But the question still remains, if the nunchuck does not tether itself to the Wiimote, would it still be considered a Nunchuck? Hmmm, it’s never annoyed me, but for those that want to go wireless with their Wii, Nyko is coming up with the answer.

Keep in mind this Wii accessory is not made by Nintendo, but Nyko is a trusted source amongst video game console accessories. Nyko already offers accesories for the Wii, like a cooler, Wiimotes, and other add ons.

Holiday Wii Shopping

There does not appear to be any kind of Wii supply relief in sight, at least before Christmas this year. But fret not, this only applies to traditional methods, such as purchasing from a brick and mortar store like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or other traditional means. The Nintendo Wii can still be bought online, although you will be paying a premium for such a sought after console.

The Buy-Wii store still has consoles, but expect to pay in the $300 range. Check out all your options to find the best deal and put the Nintendo Wii under the Christmas tree this year.

If you are a lucky one, who has managed to acquire a Nintendo Wii this Christmas, or if you are planning on buying Wii accessories for someone who already has one, here are my top pics. These items are the inexpensive answer to, “I have a Wii, buy me an accessory.”

Wii Soft Sports Kit makes playing Wii Sports titles more realistic or at least just a little more fun. They are soft, so if you get whacked in the head by a flailing Wii tennis racket you shouldn’t get knocked out.

Wii Wireless Sensor Bar makes a wireless living room, more wireless. Nintendo was smart enough to make the Nintendo Wii wifi compatible, unfortunately a wired sensor is the only thing that comes with the system. I hate wires, so this bar fits perfectly with the rest of my home theater system.

Wii HD Component Cables are almost necessary if you have an HD television. The need for this Wii accessory becomes more apparent when playing on a big TV. It will make all your Wii games look better.

Wii Zapper with Link’s Crossbow is more than just an accessory, it’s a game that makes full use of the Wii’s pointer ability. The zapper combines the nunchuck and the Wiimote so that it feels like a gun and works perfectly with the included Link’s Crossbow game. The Wii Zapper is also compatible with other Wii shooters like Resident Evil.

Wii Charge Stations are becoming a necessary, mainly because I play the Wii too much. I’m spending a fortune on AA batteries, and this solves the problem. This item would be a welcome accessory to any Wii owner. Looks like a perfect stocking stuffer for your’s truly.

New Wii Channel In Japan

Yesterday it was announced that there is a new Wii channel to be found on your Wii dashboard. The Everybody’s Nintendo Channel, for the Wii is supposedly sporting some neat features, like downloadable DS game previews, and demos. Don’t too excited yet, unfortunately this is only for Japan, for now.

This new channel incorporates a never before seen feature of the Nintendo Wii, uploading DS games from your Wii. The channel works by downloading a selected DS demo and them syncing your DS with the Wii, uploading to the DS, and then playing away. The possibilities of such a feature is limitless and is possible by the Wii’s WiFi capabilities.

We announced about a month ago of Lucas Arts plans to bring a unique twist to the Lego Star wars series, with the controls of the Wiimote. It looks like Play.com in the UK has taken the first step to making a light saber as real as possible. Now, I’m not sure how much this will lend itself to actual game play, but it does look neat.

Wii Will Play DVDs

We’re gonna have to wait until 08, but the Wii will be given DVD play back capabilities. This was confirmed by Nintendo, but not given a specific release date, just expect it sometime in 2008.

The reason for delay is because Nintendo is focusing all their efforts on meeting Holiday demand for their wildly popular console. Still, to this day it’s virtually impossible to walk into a normal store like Wal-Mart, BestBuy, or EB Games and buy a Wii. So, if you’re looking to have one under the tree this Christmas, you better buy a Wii online while you still can.
