“Wii are in profit Sir”

Nintendo have done something that no other console for a long time has managed to do. Yes Nintendo are making money on each console they sell. The general idea with console systems is that they sell for a loss but make the money up buy selling rights to being able to make games, which means company’s like Microsoft lose money every time you buy one of there console systems. However Nintendo have created a console that does not lose money buy makes it! Japanese economic site, Toyokeizai broke down the costs to make a Nintendo Wii and came out with (and this should be seen as a rough guide and is no way published by Nintendo)

Graphic tip/chip 29.60
CPU 13.00
DRAM 7.80
Optical disk drive 31.00
Power supply 11.30
Production cost 19.50 (with the half price of PS3 editorial staff calculation)
Cost total 158.30

With the Wii costing around $200 dollars it seems they are making money, granted this does not include anything such as Marketing, transport and retail profits but it clearly shows Wii is making more than any other console on the market. Nintendo have clearly planned the console well and the fact they are making money can only help R&D at Nintendo labs. Look out for some more amazing things from from Nintendo.

Wiimotes Fixed?

I made a post the other day in regards to Wiimotes wreaking havoc on unsuspecting TV’s, windows, and bystandards. The problem was that the flimsy wrist band was not enough to contain the flailing gamers motions, therefore breaking the band and the Wiimote goes flying.

There have been official announcements by Nintendo in regards to the matter, but no word of a fix has been made. However, it looks like a new wrist band is accompanying the latest batch of controllers(wiimotes). Observe the image below from Shacknews.com and yes, the arrows were necessary. ;)

Wiimote Fixed

“Swing away split-lip, Swing away.” Overactive gamers rejoice, it looks like a lot more force will be required to break that strap.

Broken Wiimote

There have been some concerns raised against the functionality and life of the wrist band attached to the Wiimote. The controller comes with a small band, which keeps the controller from being flung form the hand, but to many this just isn’t enough.

We are investigating [the Wii Remote strap issue]. Some people are getting a lot more excited than we’d expected. We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment.

I suspect that most users will simply laugh it off form getting too excited. The worst that can happen is a broken controller and embrassment, get over it guys and calm down.

Wii Component Cables Available

For anyone used to playing an Xbox360 or doing anything in HD your going to find that using your Wii leaves a little bit to be desired. This is especially true if your playing your Wii on a Hi definition TV.

Wii Component cables have been scarce, Best Buy, Circuit City and others all sold out when the Wii launched. Good news, all is not lost and MadCatzStore to the rescue.

Wii Component Cables at MadCatzStore.com

Wii Component Cables for $19.99, it’s hard to go wrong and they are in stock! Many gamers are reporting a significant difference in the quality of the graphics, namely dealing with sharp edges. Get the most out of your Wii, get component cables.

Wii Console on Amazon

Amazon WiiYou may remember back a few months ago when Amazon.com offered up the Wii console for preorder…it lasted a whole 15mins if I remember right. The number of individuals that reordered far surpassed what Amazon was going to receive, therefore they removed the ability to preorderi.

Leap forward 2 months and here we are hours away from the Nintendo Wii launch and Amazon has released another press release in regards to the console. It appears that they have received 1 console per every 100 individuals that have requested to be notified when the Wii came in stock. That means, your more than likely SOL unless you get started bright and early to get that Wii from Amazon.com.

Anyways, my hands are sweaty and my knees are weak….bla bla blah, country song etc… Hopefully I’ll be posting pics tomorrow of my brand new Wii, I plan on being at my local Wal-mart at midnight tonight. ;)

Zelda on Wii Pics

Myself, like others have been keeping my ear to the ground, hoping for some new Wii material to feast my eyes on. However, all that has rewarded me is a dirty ear and an emptiness… Therefore I am taking the moment to recap a few lackluster announcements and ideas and to post some Zelda on Wii pics.

1.) Apparently you need to preorder your Wii HD cables if you want them on launch day too. Remember, they are not included in the box.

2.) 400,000 units to Japan on launch day, to the US…anybody has a guess, nothing official.

3.) The unit is small, so keep that in mind to limit buyers remorse. lol

4.) Nintendo has launched a new advertising campaign this week before the Sunday launch, it is geared towards non-gamers, so will most likely be lackluster compared to the weird PS3 and vibrant 360 commercials. Don’t let a commercial tell you which system to buy. Buy the Wii. :)

5.) Other than Time magazine reviewing Wii sports, screens and other titillating Wii pics have been limited lately…not really anything worth reporting on. Nevertheless, here come the Zelda pics, which I’m sure most of you have seen already.

Hopefully some more breaking news in the upcoming days, but for now just rehashed news. Enjoy!

Wii Demo Booth Pics

In anticipation of the Wii’s release in a few weeks many new pictures are starting to surface around the net, especially in regards to the demo booths. You may remember that this was a hot topic about a month ago, for concern of helpless customers being hit by flailing Wii players. Hope they have a short leash on that Wiimote. ;)

Wii Players Choice Bundle

Wal-Mart.com announced that they would be allowing preorders for their Nintendo Wii Players Choice Bundle today, however as of yet no verification has been made. As of this posting if you were to visit the site it mentions that the bundle is out-of-stock.

What’s interesting is that this may be the market face for the Wii console, all bundles. The one advertised at Wal-Mart contains the following:

  • Wii Console
  • Wii Remote Controller
  • Wii Nunchuck Controller
  • Wii Nintendo Points Card
  • Choice of 4 Wii Games
