How Much Would You Pay?

Lotsa Lbs for Wii

I’m never amazed at what some people will pay for anything online, especially through ebay. For no others reason other than not doing their research some people would gladly fork over 10 times as much money as they would need to for the same thing. garrr.

According to TheHollyWoodNews.com a Nintendo Wii was purchased for more than £1000, that’s over $2,000 USD. Why would someone pay this much for a system that can regularly be purchased for around $300 from Buy Wii Online, because they didn’t do their research! Also, the story notes that the person who bought the Wii was only trying to keep their kids happy for Christmas….spoiled freakin kids. Merry Christmas everyone!

Nintendo Ad Freeze

Nintendo WiiNintendo is responding to consumer complaints, in regards to Wii shortages, by haulting all their advertising. I personally have seen a number of Wii game advertisements though, especially surrounding Mario Galaxy and the Godzilla Unleashed.

So, does it make you feel better that Nintendo has decided to pause promotion of the console? I think the buzz is sustaining enough to make any gamer want to get their hands on one, even if there is no ongoing advertising going on. The powers that be say that they will be focusing their efforts on the DS and pick up the Wii console ads after the New Year.

Holiday Wii Shopping

There does not appear to be any kind of Wii supply relief in sight, at least before Christmas this year. But fret not, this only applies to traditional methods, such as purchasing from a brick and mortar store like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or other traditional means. The Nintendo Wii can still be bought online, although you will be paying a premium for such a sought after console.

The Buy-Wii store still has consoles, but expect to pay in the $300 range. Check out all your options to find the best deal and put the Nintendo Wii under the Christmas tree this year.

Wii Supply and Demand

Wii ChristmasYou don’t have to be an industry analyst to know that supply of the Nintendo Wii console cannot keep up with the demand, especially approaching Christmas. However, Michael Patcher, an industry professional feels that it will be sometime in April before Nintendo can even out the supply to put Wii’s on the shelf after the holiday rush.

He did, however, state that despite the lack of stock, Nintendo will top Christmas sales with Wii, predicting the company to sell 1.7 million consoles over the Christmas period, while he expects Microsoft to sell 1.5 million 360s and Sony to flog 800,000 PS3s.

Another reason to buy that Nintendo Wii online or pretty much anywhere you can find one. Although you will be paying a premium, or finders fee, it’s still a small price to pay for the hottest gift of the past 2 years. ;)

Kynapse For Wii

Kynapse Coming To Wii DevelopersKynapse may not mean anything to the common gamer, but it’s the backbone for many AI(artificial intelligence) for characters in the games we play. Up until now the source has not been available for the development of Wii video games, but today that changes.

With Kynapse now available for the Nintendo Wii we can expect smarter enemies, more life like non-player friends in the coming games to the Wii. Kynapse has been used in some of the most successful games out there today, like Crackdown,  Alone in The Dark, Fable 2, and The Lord of The Rings Online. Expect some epic games from developers utilizing this developer tool in the upcoming Wii lineup.

The official press release is here. Also, find out the technobabble associated with this new developer tool for the Nintendo Wii here.

Wii Shortages Lead to Bundles Only

Rumors are abounding that many retailers are forcing the sale of Wii bundles as an only option to get a Wii this holiday. Because of the shortages major retailers are bundling systems with games and extra controllers to force a sale of twice the price of a Wii only. Reports are showing that stores such as Toys R Us are only selling bundles and refuse to sell a standalone Wii system.

On the home front, Nintendo is still claiming that they are doing everything they can to keep up with the demand, especially this close to Christmas. However, it’s a daunting task with Wii being the #1 seller in next-gen game consoles, almost the world over. Who would have guessed over a year later that the Wii would still be outselling every other system AND still be in a shortage?

Wii Party Games For Christmas

Wii Smarty PantsIf you are like my family, it’s large, and we all get together at a central meeting point at Christmas. The mornings are normally consumed by initial meet and greets, along with people talking about how hungry they are, in anticipation of a large dinner. Then dinner time comes, family gets full, and the afternoon drags on. To pass the time we play board games or similar activity to get everyone involved, this year we plan on doing something different.

I hope that this year we can use the Wii to bring the family together and play some min-games and a little bit of trivia from the new game Smarty Pants. Most of the games are easy enough and the controls are effective so that all ages in our family can play together. Never mind the fact we look like flailing idiots, especially during some of the minigames in Raving Rabbits. Playing the Wii at a family get together is a new twist on an old tradition that I think everyone will enjoy.

How are you planning on using the Wii during the Holidays?

Wii Media Center…Possibility

With the news yesterday of a new DS Download Channel in Japan, the possibility of the Wii becoming a set-top box increases. Also, don’t forget the fact that the Wii is compatible with USB Keyboards and there is already software available to fake some media center properties in your Wii. Because of these turn of events many industry analysts feel that Nintendo is trying to follow the Xbox 360 and PS3 lead of becoming a complete entertainment box.

The real challenge will be storage for the Wii, along with the processing power to stream media and handle multiple downloads. In addition, Nintendo is claiming there is no immediate plan to bring the Download Channel to the US.

There are no plans to bring something like this to the United States at the moment, he said, but Nintendo is always looking around. “There are other channel opportunities,” he said. “They may look like games. They may not look like games.”

Don’t we just love hearing the vague game? News.com has the rest of the scoop, in a boring comparison of next gen consoles and how they will replace your DVD player, cable box, and even PC. Yeah right.

Mario Galaxy 500k Strong

Mario Galaxy

Nintendo is absolutely glowing over the recent success of the plumber’s latest adventure, Super Mario Galaxy. According to Nintendo’s sales figures the Wii game sold more than 500,000 copies in the very first week of release in the US, not to mention over seas sales of more than 251,000. In the UK market it’s currently the #1 selling Wii Game of all time.

Super Mario Galaxy had the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with U.S. sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures. It makes an easy gift choice as the holiday shopping season kicks off.”

Young And Old Love The Wii

There have been a number of reports released lately that suggest that senior citizens are having just as much fun with the Nintendo Wii as their younger counter parts. Of course this has surprised Nintendo, who’s target audience has normally been the younger generation. But who wouldn’t fall in love with a system that provides exceptional game play and not just hang it’s hat on technological advancements in graphics?

According to the Christian Science Monitor, many retirement homes are becoming test markets for Nintendo. In addition, Nintendo has decided to specifically target this demographic with a plan to help the +60 hand eye coordination, bring excitement to a retirement community life that would normally be only about Bingo.

Proponents say the Wii offers a welcome reprieve from a sedentary lifestyle, and boosts hand-eye coordination among the over-60 set in a way that Bingo and Mahjong can’t.

So, this holiday season remember not to hog that Nintendo Wii, because chances are your grandparents would love playing it as well. I find this especially true since my grandpa can’t make it out to the links anymore, nothing like a nice rousing game of 3 par.
