If you’re a hardcore gamer, the chances are pretty good that you don’t need anyone to explain to you what the differences between Nintendo’s Wii and their recently announced newest title are. The average consumer, however, will likely need a bit of help figuring out the differences before they decide if they want to preorder Wii U system consoles or not for several reasons. It does look very similar to the original Wii, but more than that, you can still use wii-motes and play titles that were designed for the original console. What, then, is the big difference between the original system and the newest console, and should one be on your list of things to purchase?
The Remote
The first difference you’re likely to notice is the new remote that comes along with the console. The new remote actually looks a great deal like a small tablet PC, and in many ways, it actually works like one. It has touch screen capability, and it can connect to the internet, but the biggest way it’s different is that it’s designed specifically to connect with the new console. The new controller, which has yet to find a fun nickname as the wii-mote did, is designed to be utilized with the new console, taking gamers deeper into games than they’ve ever been able to go before.
Say, for instance, you’re playing a game where you shoot ninja throwing stars into the forest at targets. The only way you would be able to aim your throwing star at the screen, and to throw it, was to aim the wii-mote directly at the screen and to press a button. While this can be fun, the new controller actually allows you to point the small controller screen towards your television and to pass your hand over the throwing star that shows on the screen, “magically” shooting it towards the television in a unique and completely immersive experience. The new controller also features a gyroscope and an accelerometer, making the entire thing sensitive to touch and movement. Gamers will also be surprised at the inward facing camera, which can be used to video conference with friends and family. Additionally, it features a microphone, speakers, and the rumble feature, making it clear that Nintendo threw everything they had at this new, unique controller.
Other Features
Another thing that is likely to make even people who aren’t fans of the company ready to preorder Wii U consoles are the graphics. Nintendo listened when the fans said that they wanted graphics that were able to better compete with consoles like the Playstation and the Xbox, and they seriously bumped up the video capabilities. The system itself supports HD and can go as high as 1080p, and with an HDMI out port, it can be easily connected to any HD television. Even the new controller comes in high def as well, which is sure to make fans very happy indeed. There are also four USB 2.0 ports as well, two in the front of the console and two in the back of it.
Before you preorder Wii U system consoles for yourself or your kids, do all the research you want on it. You’ll quickly see, however, that this new system presents a new and unique way to game, and if it follows in the steps of the original Wii, it’s likely to sell out very quickly.
