There have been a number of reports released lately that suggest that senior citizens are having just as much fun with the Nintendo Wii as their younger counter parts. Of course this has surprised Nintendo, who’s target audience has normally been the younger generation. But who wouldn’t fall in love with a system that provides exceptional game play and not just hang it’s hat on technological advancements in graphics?
According to the Christian Science Monitor, many retirement homes are becoming test markets for Nintendo. In addition, Nintendo has decided to specifically target this demographic with a plan to help the +60 hand eye coordination, bring excitement to a retirement community life that would normally be only about Bingo.
Proponents say the Wii offers a welcome reprieve from a sedentary lifestyle, and boosts hand-eye coordination among the over-60 set in a way that Bingo and Mahjong can’t.
So, this holiday season remember not to hog that Nintendo Wii, because chances are your grandparents would love playing it as well. I find this especially true since my grandpa can’t make it out to the links anymore, nothing like a nice rousing game of 3 par.
