Next Generation Wii

Alright, I know it’s a little early in the Wii’s life to start talking about the next generation Wii, especially considering there is still a shortage. However, Absolute Gadget is a web site that has decided to start speculating on the next console to follow the Wii and what it means for the quirky and fun Wiimote.

“We imagine some future generation of [Nintendo's] Wii won’t have hand controllers,”said Rattner. “You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis.”

Interesting concept, but I wonder how that would fit in with Nintendo’s plan to have an affordable console for EVERYONE. The need for multiple cameras setup in a living room does not seem to fit in with Nintendo’s current business plan, but you never know and it’s fun speculating.

How Much Would You Pay?

Lotsa Lbs for Wii

I’m never amazed at what some people will pay for anything online, especially through ebay. For no others reason other than not doing their research some people would gladly fork over 10 times as much money as they would need to for the same thing. garrr.

According to TheHollyWoodNews.com a Nintendo Wii was purchased for more than £1000, that’s over $2,000 USD. Why would someone pay this much for a system that can regularly be purchased for around $300 from Buy Wii Online, because they didn’t do their research! Also, the story notes that the person who bought the Wii was only trying to keep their kids happy for Christmas….spoiled freakin kids. Merry Christmas everyone!

Amusement Park for Wii

Amusement Park on Wii

Don’t let the title fool you, this is not another roller coaster sim, it’s more mini-games with a Carnival like theme. The game Amusement Park is being developed by Wonderworld and will provide 30 minigames for the entire family to enjoy.

There is not a lot of information out there on this title yet, but it will be 4 player. I’d imagine this title would be similar to the already released Carnival Games.

Buy-Wii.net Customer Reviews of Godzilla Unleashed

4 out of 5 stars Godzilla Unleashed on Wii   December 7, 2007

Let me preface this by saying that I’m a big Godzilla fan who enjoyed the previous two entries into this series, “Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee” and “Godzilla Save The Earth” even though they were flawed games. I have been awaiting “Godzilla Unleashed” since summer and it is one of the reasons I picked up a Nintendo Wii.

While “Godzilla Unleashed” is far from a perfect game, I am very happy with it and would recommend it without reservations to any Godzilla fan. The game features an almost perfect roster of Toho monsters, some of whom have never appeared in a video game before. The game also features innovative controls that make use of the Wiimote/nunchuck setup and a nonlinear story mode in which choices made during the game influence what you encounter later in the story. And, of course, there are many options for multiplayer which has always been the cornerstone for these Atari Godzilla games. All of the above are executed with varying levels of quality.

Wireless Wii Nunchuck

Coming soon is an answer to those searching for true Wireless freedom. But the question still remains, if the nunchuck does not tether itself to the Wiimote, would it still be considered a Nunchuck? Hmmm, it’s never annoyed me, but for those that want to go wireless with their Wii, Nyko is coming up with the answer.

Keep in mind this Wii accessory is not made by Nintendo, but Nyko is a trusted source amongst video game console accessories. Nyko already offers accesories for the Wii, like a cooler, Wiimotes, and other add ons.

Holiday Wii Shopping

There does not appear to be any kind of Wii supply relief in sight, at least before Christmas this year. But fret not, this only applies to traditional methods, such as purchasing from a brick and mortar store like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or other traditional means. The Nintendo Wii can still be bought online, although you will be paying a premium for such a sought after console.

The Buy-Wii store still has consoles, but expect to pay in the $300 range. Check out all your options to find the best deal and put the Nintendo Wii under the Christmas tree this year.

Wii Supply and Demand

Wii ChristmasYou don’t have to be an industry analyst to know that supply of the Nintendo Wii console cannot keep up with the demand, especially approaching Christmas. However, Michael Patcher, an industry professional feels that it will be sometime in April before Nintendo can even out the supply to put Wii’s on the shelf after the holiday rush.

He did, however, state that despite the lack of stock, Nintendo will top Christmas sales with Wii, predicting the company to sell 1.7 million consoles over the Christmas period, while he expects Microsoft to sell 1.5 million 360s and Sony to flog 800,000 PS3s.

Another reason to buy that Nintendo Wii online or pretty much anywhere you can find one. Although you will be paying a premium, or finders fee, it’s still a small price to pay for the hottest gift of the past 2 years. ;)

Kynapse For Wii

Kynapse Coming To Wii DevelopersKynapse may not mean anything to the common gamer, but it’s the backbone for many AI(artificial intelligence) for characters in the games we play. Up until now the source has not been available for the development of Wii video games, but today that changes.

With Kynapse now available for the Nintendo Wii we can expect smarter enemies, more life like non-player friends in the coming games to the Wii. Kynapse has been used in some of the most successful games out there today, like Crackdown,  Alone in The Dark, Fable 2, and The Lord of The Rings Online. Expect some epic games from developers utilizing this developer tool in the upcoming Wii lineup.

The official press release is here. Also, find out the technobabble associated with this new developer tool for the Nintendo Wii here.
